The National Institute of Technical Standards of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Resources (referred to as the Institute) stated that in order to confirm whether 190 popular products sold on overseas online platforms with a large number of domestic users are harmful, a safety investigation was conducted, and the results showed that 40 products did not meet domestic safety standards.
Recently, with increasing concerns about the safety of overseas direct purchase products, a survey was conducted on 190 popular products with high sales volume on overseas online platforms. The survey results showed a non-compliance rate of 21.1%, which is relatively high compared to the average non-compliance rate of 6.1% in the first half of this year for domestic circulation product safety surveys.
Specifically, among the 66 products investigated, 14 electrical appliances, including DC power supply devices (8), LED lighting fixtures (3), plugs and sockets (2), and waffle makers (1), did not meet safety standards. Among the 30 products investigated, 11 products, including portable laser devices (3) and ride safety helmets (2), did not meet safety standards. Among the 94 products investigated, 15 products, including children's fiber products (7), toys (4), and child carriers (1), did not meet safety standards.
In order to provide consumers with reference when purchasing overseas direct purchase products, the National Standards Institute has published information on 40 products with confirmed hazards on the product safety information portal website (www.safetykorea. kr) and Consumer 24 (www.consumer. go. kr), and requested overseas direct purchase online platform operators to block sales to prevent domestic inflow.
The National Standards Institute stated, "The public has great concerns about the safety of products purchased directly from overseas. Therefore, we plan to launch the second safety investigation of products purchased directly from overseas in September, and continue to expand the safety investigation of products purchased directly from overseas in the future
