Chen Zhongxu, President of the National Technical Standards Institute of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Resources, and Wu Youqing, Director of the Food and Drug Safety Department, attended the "24th World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (WTO TBT) Committee (6.4~7)" and raised objections to overseas technology restrictions that hinder the export of Chinese enterprises, exploring cooperation plans.

In the context of the increasing negative impact of technology restrictions in various countries around the world on the export environment of Chinese enterprises, the government has actively taken action to alleviate the concerns of Chinese export enterprises through the WTO TBT Committee activities, which play a core role in eliminating trade technology barriers*

*Last year, 4079 TBTs were reported in 92 countries, surpassing 4000 for the first time in history

TBT notifications: ('95) 389 → ('05) 897 → ('10) 1869 → ('22) 3896 → ('23) 4079

At this meeting, the government will raise 7 overseas technology restrictions related to South Korea's main export products, including EU fluoride greenhouse gas (F-GAS *) restrictions, India's digital TV certification restrictions, and China's cosmetics supervision restrictions, which have caused concerns in the South Korean home appliance and automotive industries due to exceeding international standards, as Specific Trade Concerns (STCs).

*Fluorinated Greenhouse Gase as an alternative material for ozone depleting substances such as Freon, used in air conditioning refrigerants, etc

At the same time, bilateral consultations will be held with countries such as the United States, the European Union, Japan, and Saudi Arabia to discuss solutions to eliminate technology restrictions that hinder China's industry exports. It has been decided to strengthen cooperation and develop effective solutions to address excessive trade technology barriers.

The government stated that it will share the results of this committee with relevant industries and continue to work hard to solve the difficulties faced by domestic export enterprises. At the same time, actively encourage export enterprises that are facing difficulties due to overseas technology restrictions to seek support through the KnowTBT (Overseas Technology Restriction Response Information System).
