South Korea will lead discussions on the international standard of Digital Twin, which aims to transform real manufacturing processes into virtual spaces and control them.
The National Technical Standards Institute of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Resources (President Chen Zhongxu, hereinafter referred to as the National Standards Institute) will hold the International Conference on Industrial Data Standardization (ISO TC184SC4) from May 12th to 17th at The K Hotel in Seoul to discuss international standards for digital transformation in the manufacturing industry. More than 50 experts from 14 leading manufacturing countries, including China, including the United States, Germany, and Japan, will discuss the standardization of digital twin data management, industrial data exchange methods, and data quality. The manufacturing data of various industries such as shipbuilding and complete equipment has surpassed the significance of factory automation combined with IT, and has been used for self judgment and adjustment of independent manufacturing, becoming the core foundation of industrial digital transformation.
At this conference, our country proposed a new standard solution to establish the real twin of digital twin component manufacturing equipment, processes, etc., the virtual twin of using digital technology to achieve real twin, and the interface connecting two twins. Previously, China had been focusing on developing international standards for the basic principles, structure, and expression methods of virtual twins. This standard case will help ensure the establishment and interoperability of the common concept of digital twins, and companies are expected to use relevant standards for manufacturing digital transformation.
Wu Guanghai, Director of the Bureau of Standards and Policy, said, "Digital twins have played an important role in replacing direct human work in hazardous workplaces and improving manufacturing completion in sites that require precision technology. The National Institute of Standards will actively support international standardization activities in the field of industrial data, including digital twins."
In addition, the National Institute of Standards will hold an "Intelligent Manufacturing International Standards Forum" in COEX on May 14th (Tuesday), with the participation of international conference participants from the UK, Japan, and domestic manufacturing experts. The forum will discuss the role of standards in the context of the rapid spread of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and other technologies to the manufacturing industry.
