The National Technical Standards Institute (Dean Chen Zhongxu, hereinafter referred to as the National Standards Institute) and the Korean Consumer Institute (Dean Yin Xiuxian, hereinafter referred to as the Consumer Institute) of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Resources will implement a one month promotional campaign on preventing winter safety accidents without starting heaters starting from February 14th, as the official camping season approaches.
*Burn diesel or other fuel while the vehicle is not started, and warm the heating system inside the vehicle with heated air or water
The non starter heater is mainly used for drivers to sleep or rest during long-distance driving such as winter trucks, but recently it has been expanded to use vehicles for camping (overnight) or heating inside camping tents, increasing the risk of safety accidents. Especially, due to improper installation of exhaust pipes and other reasons, carbon monoxide poisoning accidents may occur, and users need to pay special attention.
In response to this, the National Standards Institute, the Consumer Institute, the Korean Product Safety Management Institute, the Korean Gas Safety Corporation, and the Korean Tourism Corporation have released promotional posters (see Appendix 1), which include ▲ the correct installation method for the intake and exhaust pipes without starting heaters; ▲ regular internal ventilation during use; ▲ safety usage guidelines such as installing carbon monoxide alarms to prevent safety accidents. Produce and distribute through online communities, social networking services (SNS), etc.
Officials from the National Standards Institute and the Consumer Institute stated, "If a non starter heater is installed and used in the wrong way, there may be casualties. It is important to be familiar with the precautions for safe installation and use of non starter heaters, conduct regular inspections, and look forward to the implementation of a safe camping culture."
